CLIMATE CHANGE FACT:
Globally, it is very likely that the 1990s was the warmest decade and 1998 the warmest year on record. Records have been kept since 1861.
 
Schools that are selected assemble a team to support the chosen student on the expedition. This student will complete scientific and creative art projects with the assistance of top scientists and renowned artists on the expedition. Each student will also be linked to the Cape Farewell Canada website through both blogging and live video feed.

The first Cape Farewell expedition to originate in Canada took place September 7-20, 2008, when 16 Canadian high school students representing each province and territory joined an international group of students on an expedition of discovery to Canada’s Arctic. The expedition departed from Reykjavik (Iceland), rounded the southern tip of Greenland and arrived at Iqaluit (Baffin Island) - voyage map.

The Art/Science Teaching Resources and the Cape Farewell Youth Expedition Documentary from the 2008 Expedition are available for free. The resource videos and lesson plans were developed as teaching aids for climate change education through the arts and sciences.

In September 2007, 12 young voyagers from Canada, UK and Germany sailed around the Norwegian Arctic to raise awareness about climate change. This expedition was a chance for youth to learn about the science of climate change and to communicate this important issue through art.
